Our past rail networks have been operated and maintained by different rail operators where information about the rail assets are kept separately in the Maintenance Management System (MMS) of each line and in different formats. The maintenance process also differs in each line.
I am part of the team spearheading the development of a comprehensive and robust Enterprise Asset Management System (EAMS). This system consolidates and integrates the asset information distributed across all lines into a single system. It allows us to perform trend analysis and fault prediction so that faults can be detected early and addressed before disruptions occur. It innovates by leveraging new technologies to improve rail reliability, helping us to better prioritise our maintenance and renewal works.
As the rail networks are currently operated and maintained by two different rail operators, we have to work with each operator individually to fully understand their current systems and processes so as to best develop our Rail EAMS.
Engineering is exciting. Because it is always about trying out new approaches, finding new solutions to problems and learning new technologies. Nothing is ever static in the engineering world.
It is fulfilling to see ideas being turned into solutions. I find great satisfaction in knowing that my work makes a difference in the lives of Singaporeans.
