The Pinnacle@Duxton stands on a historically significant site where the first two public housing blocks in Tanjong Pagar area were built in 1963. Due to the significance of the site, an international design competition was organised, resulting in the first 50-storey public housing being developed. The project also boasts the world’s first with skybridges linking all seven towers. It was accorded “Best Tall Building – Asia and Australasia Region” by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat in 2010.
The tower blocks were constructed using high strength concrete and prefabricated components. High strength concrete reduced structural elements sizes, thus creating more useable spaces. Prefabricated components were efficiently constructed off-site, thereafter delivered and installed on-site. Prefabrication accounted for 85% of total concrete volume used. By clever usage of a limited number of external façade components (i.e. planter boxes, bays, bay windows, windows and balconies), a unique façade was created, generating visual interest and reduced the perceived building mass.
